Lydia feeling the vibes 
Lilly
Lydia looked up over her glasses at Lilly. “What are you doing here?”
“I’m allowed.” She peered at the computer screen. “How far did she get?”
“5th grade level.” Lydia waved a hand in the air. “She used the writing app for readability.”
“Down to grade 5? That’s insulting an agent’s intelligence. It’ll hit the trash bin.”
“Oh, really? What would you do?” Lydia poked loose strands of brown hair into a back bun.
Lilly’s long brunette curls framed her face. “Well, obviously, there’s something missing.”
“What do you mean? The book description is concise and grammatically correct.”
“It is and it’s boring. Where’s the rhythm, the voice?” Lilly crossed her arms.
“Humph. There you go throwing music around, because you two play the guitar.”
“Lydia, don’t get huffy. She needs a grammar guru like you. But, I got the rhythm and style.”
Lilly strummed an imaginary guitar. “Let your hair down, Lydia. Feel the vibes.”
Lydia rolled her eyes. She hid a grin and fiddled with her hair bun.
Elizabeth stopped typing and said, “Okay, good you two settled down. While you were bickering back and forth about some important things, I worked on a new version. I looked up Amazon book descriptions and the average length is 130 words. The first 120 pack the most punch. The agent specifically requested a book description, not a synopsis. At 150 words, it fits on one page with the added greeting and bio.”
Elizabeth stared at the word document and said, “It’s concise Lydia. And Lilly, my voice is back. So, if you two can agree on any changes, hopefully with less bickering … I’ll listen.”

Greg, I just read your post and my humor pales in my muse challenge. But, if you ever need a steadfast, playful muse, you can borrow my Lilly. Bet she’d love chocolate chip ice cream, and she can match your humor energy. Here, she only gets peach ginger green tea, and GF whatever. But send her back home though, no fair keeping her. 5th grade level is great for a novel. You want it to be easy to read or else it won’t be fun!

I wonder about agents reading a query letter written at a 5th grade level. Seems boring. But, then, it’s the story that sells, not so much the format. 📚🎶 Christine

Diana, thanks so much for creating the Meet the Muse challenge. It brought fellow writers & their muses together. Lydia & Lilly are happy to write historical fiction. They are real characters in the book. Their voices & looks are very distinct. And of course I personally connect with them. I’m Elizabeth, the main character. Thanks for the good luck with the book. The editing and scene additions are coming along nicely. 📚🎶Christine

Maybe the secret is having more than one muse and letting them argue while you get some work done. I like that idea.

Dan, thanks so much for your comment. The two muses in writing works for me. I even put the manuscript on the computer screen to the left for Lydia and editing, and to the right for Lilly and emotional style. In the center to read the latest version. Then, I hear both bickering over my shoulder. It takes a while to get it right before they do high fives! 🤣📚🎶 Christine

Muse Mayhem! Loved it! And all the comments. We as writers have creative ways—our muses—to get the a story just right. Lydia is really on target when she tells me something is not clear, and what do you mean by that? Lilly pipes up, how about what she’s thinking inside her head. Readers want to know her secret thoughts. Muses get to be family like our book characters. 📚🎶 Christine

So one does the ‘head’ stuff (grammar) and the other the ‘heart’ stuff (music and rhythm). That sounds the perfect combinations. (Left and right sides of the brain.)

Absolutely! You got it V.M. But, really from research I’ve read, the middle of the brain is the creative part. Both sides meet in the middle, and that’s when Lydia & Lilly high five! 🤣🎶📚

Thanks so much for asking, Ahmed. The manuscript is being proofread now. I have the self-publishing team working on the different elements. The new title, Three Years of Her Life, needed a different book cover than the old title Sunset Inn. Your book cover design just didn’t fit. Thank you again for your creative cover portraying Sunset Inn. I have it to admire in my photo gallery. The book launch is planned for summer or fall. 📚🎶 Christine

Thanks so much for noticing, GP. I’ve taken in self-publishing my book, Three Years of Her Life. It’s in the proofreaders hands now. Should be another month before it’s available in Amazon. Add to the mix, two 5 month old Border Aussie puppies, now 8 months old and already more than 30 lbs each. Training them everyday!

Thank God I’m healthy. I’m in my 80s and a germ conscious nurse practitioner (retired.) Purell hand sanitizer and washing. Staying out of crowds! Glued to the computer! Loving my puppies. And all is well. 🤣
